The thyroid means shield in Greek and is a key element in our immune system. Supplementing it is somewhat of only a band-aide but essential. The tests: TSH is a test of the pituitary causing the protein in the thyroid to release thyroxine into the blood stream and not a thyroid stimulating hormone but a thryroxine releasing enzyme. The thryorixine is four iodines on a double tyrosine amino acid derivative. When the liver uses glutathione and selenium to pull of one of any of the iodines for the liver to share with the kidney it becomes the T3 (tri-iodo-tyroixine) and unstable. The T4 is stable and lasts six days in the body while the less stable T3 lasts only 8 hours and is released just before sleep to keep the heart running while the nerves sleep. The thyroid also releases a bit of lithium at the same time to calm the brain down and T3 will stimulate the brain as well as the heart. The protein in the thryoid that holds T4 in place is called thyroglobulin where globulin means protein. Some infections destroy this protein and there is a blood test called anti-thyroglobulin (TgAb). Another thyroid test is in regards to the conversion of T4 to T3 that uses Thyroid-Peroxidase (TPO). The thyroxine, synthroid, levothryoxin and the T3 cytomel, and others only relate to the freeT4 and freeT3 in the blood stream. The TgAb and TPO relate to Hasimoto's and Graves' Disease that are labeled auto-immune.
These last two seem to repair with anti-fungal therapies.
This is not intended to make any claim nor is it intended to be a diagnosis. It is my opinion. -- Bryon
